Mumchat came about as the result of a group of Mums who met on another, commercial board. We got to know each other throughout our pregnancies and through some very rough weeks as new mums. Unfortunately, our other chat space became a bit too frantic and fast paced and we felt that it had lost its "intimacy" (if you could call it that!).

So mumchat was born in November 2006 and has been going crazy every since! Most of us are based in Sydney but we have members from other parts of NSW, Australia and NZ.

The aim of mumchat is to provide a space where mums can come together and talk openly and candidly about their experiences, without judgement- just the best support and advice that can be offered.

By joining MumChat you agree that any recommendations made or advice offered in these forums is completely non-professional, and should not be relied upon without checking with qualified health-care professionals.  This is just a group of Mums chatting... we don't replace the advice of your doctor or childcare worker.  You agree that MumChat is not responsible if you follow advice from this forum, in the same way that a cafe owner would not be responsible for a conversation you had with another mum in his cafe.

While mumchat will come up in Google searches, it requires membership in order to read or post. we have done this to ensure that our members are protected in their privacy and to ensure that it remains a community that is safe, and members can talk openly and honestly about the challenges they are facing. For this reason, as moderator and owner of the space, we regularly check login stats and delete people who have been inactive for extensive periods of time.

Please note- if you are a journalist or researcher (or any sort of nasty), the contents of these pages should not be used for any commercial purpose.

We will not share your contact details with any other organisation without asking  (and receiving), your permission and will endeavour to keep all personal contact details secure from hackers.

As a matter of etiquette, we ask that you say a quick hello and introduce yourself when joining.   This is important, as the community spirit on this forum revolves around building friendship and trust amongst the forum members - and people 'lurking around' without posting detract from that atmosphere of trust.
